Delbert D. Ostergaard was born the ninth child and seventh son of Carl and Geneva Ostergaard on August 23,1945 in Overton, Nebraska. He died with his family surrounding him on March 17, 2026.

On November 9, 1968 Del was wedded to Jeanie Schaffart at St. Philip Neri Parish, and they have been married for over 57 years.

Del loved life and loved people. His generosity, kindness and humor were legendary. He loved baseball, softball, golf, coaching, playing cards, friends and neighbors, and he loved his family - especially his grandkids.

Del is survived by his wife, Jeanie; children, Kim (Tom) Novak, Adam (Jill) Ostergaard, and Allie (Andrew) Flohr; grandchildren, Shelby, Grant, Carley, Jackson, Grace, Abby, Owen, Nora, and Wesley; and great-grandson, Noah. He is also survived by siblings Dallas, Delores, Dorothy, Shirley, Mark, Mike, Jean, and Sandra; many in-laws that were like siblings, and nieces and nephews too numerous to list.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dean, Don, DeWayne, Denton, and Doug, and his beloved son, Eric.

Our family would like to thank all who have shared their unwavering friendship and kindnesses, the many healthcare workers who have provided compassionate care over the past five years, and special thanks to our team from Hillcrest Hospice, including Nicole, Jessica and Akisha.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Gerald’s parish at 10 am on Saturday, March 21, 2026, with lunch to follow. Family will be available to greet friends and relatives beginning at 9 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Gerald’s Catholic Church, the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, or the Open Door Mission of Omaha.
