David Elmer Herrmann (April 16, 1942 - June 4, 2026)
David Elmer Herrmann, age 84, of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Montrose, Illinois died Thursday, June 4, 2026, from diabetic complications at HillCrest Health Center-Millard.
David was born April 16, 1942, to Elmer August and Irene Alberta Ragsdale Herrmann. He resided on a farm south of Montrose and graduated from Dieterich High School in 1960. David helped on the family farm until 1964 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was assigned to Lackland Air Force base in Texas for basic training and served until 1968 at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha. While in the Air Force, David worked during his time off at the Timmerman Dairy Farm in Papillion.
Following his military service, he worked 35 years for Xerox in Omaha. He married Deanna Therese Schreck on August 19, 1989, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Omaha.
He was an avid train hobbyist. David and Deanna enjoyed train travel and fifteen winters in Mesa, Arizona in their motorhome. They participated in numerous train tours, cruises and vacations, including travel to Switzerland, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska and many national parks, which they documented with countless photos and videos. Membership in the Good Sam’s Camping & Square Dance Clubs and the PrimeTimers at St. Wenceslaus were important to them.
In addition to his wife, Deanna, he is survived by his brother, Lance (Marge) Herrmann, sister, Alice (Charles) Huber, brothers-in-law, MJ (Donna) Schreck and Wayne Schreck. David was a loving uncle to his eleven nieces and nephews, and he had multiple great-nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents and Deanna’s parents.
FUNERAL MASS: Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 11:00am, with VISITATION one hour prior to the service, all at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church (15353 Pacific St.) GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 12:30pm at Omaha National Cemetery.
