Darwin Wendell Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Darwin W. Darwin Wendell Montgomery was born January 13, 1921 in Clarinda, Iowa. He departed this life on January 19, 2018, Darwin was the oldest of eleven children born to Herschel and Aple Marie Montgomery. Darwin was united in Holy Matrimony to Evelyn Tigg on June 25, 1950. They have since celebrated sixty seven years of marriage. They had one son, Darwin Wendell Montgomery Jr. Darwin, Sr. attended elementary and high school in Clarinda. Then, following three years of service in the Army (World War II) “Monty” as he was sometimes called, studied engineering at Omaha University (now University of Nebraska at Omaha) and at Nebraska University (now University of Nebraska at Lincoln). It was at this time that he joined America Legion Post 1. During the time he attended classes, Monty and his father operated a “Body Shop” where automobiles were repaired and painted. “Wendell” later worked for twenty six years at the US Post Office and retired in 1980 as Post Office Engineer. During his spare time, Monty enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and playing bridge. Darwin leaves to mourn his loss his wife of 67 years, Evelyn; son Darwin (Dena); granddaughter Darcy; grandson Wendell; great-granddaughter Braelyn; brother Rolland (Gloria); sisters Agnes Honeycutt,Wanda Carter, Helen Hall, Connie (Bruce) Harrold; cousin LaVonne Curtis; sister-in-law Nadine Trigg; nieces nephews, relatives, and friends. HOMEGOING CELEBRATION: 11:00 AM Saturday, January 27th at Braman Mortuary 72nd Street Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
