Cindy Rae Nelson-Carpenter was born in Omaha, NE on December 3, 1952, to Art and Frances Synstad, and passed away on September 18, 2026. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, sister and aunt. She was blessed with three sons, Shawn, Erin and Steven, and for many years she raised them on her own as a single mother.
Cindy had a kind heart and was fiercely protective of her children. She never hesitated to speak her mind and stand up for her family, and she was always there when it counted the most. Her infectious laugh could fill a room. She was frugal and resourceful, always finding a way to make a dollar stretch. Cindy had a special love for animals, especially dogs, and gave her time volunteering at the Humane Society. She also loved gardening and being outside taking care of her yard.
Cindy is survived by her sons Shawn Nelson (Wife Jenny), Erin Nelson and Steven Carpenter; granddaughters Ruby-Faye, Anna-Ruth and Bella-Ray Nelson; and grandsons Jack and Max Carpenter. Also surviving are her niece Tammy McAtee, nephews Ted and Bobby Synstad, and great-nephews Dalton and Liam McAtee.
Cindy will be deeply missed and remain in our hearts, forever.
