Berniece "Bea" Waniska

Berniece “Bea’ Josephine Dettmer Waniska, daughter of Fred and Josephine (Petersen) Dettmer, was born on August 22, 1929 on a farm near Eagle, NE.She was one of four children.She was baptized at North Branch Lutheran Church near Syracuse, NE on Sept. 15, 1929 by Rev. Bergstrasser.Berniece was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Johnson, NE on April 1, 1945.Berniece attended school in Eagle, NE until the passing of her father in 1936.The family then moved to Nemaha County and lived with her Uncle Fred Petersen on a farm near Johnson, NE.She attended the rural Clifton school and later graduated from Johnson High School in 1947.Bea then went to work at the National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln.On November 4, 1952 she was united in marriage to Frank Waniska of Lincoln.Two sons were born to this union.In 1965 the family moved to Millard, NE.Bea was employed by Anderson Mercantile and later Amcroft.Bea was a very devoted and active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Millard.She was a member of ELCA, Peace Circle, Beta Sigma Phi and Gamma Masters Chapter. Bea’s favorite pastime was playing cards and watching Husker football and volleyball with family and friends.She helped form the Dizzy Dames Chapter of Red Hats.Her great love was her family.Berniece is preceded in death by her parents; sister LuEtta Dettmer; brother Earl Dettmer and sister-in-law Beverly Dettmer.Bea is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank Waniska; sons, Fred of McKinney, TX, Robert and wife Becky of Omaha; grandsons, Chad and Derek Waniska; sister, Helen Casey of Johnson, NE and sister-in-law Alma Dettmer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Celebration of Berniece's life will be Wednesday, 10:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (13271 Millard Ave.). Visitation: Tuesday, 5-8 PM at Braman Mortuary (Southwest Chapel). Burial: Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery, Lincoln, NE. Memorials can be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
