Anthony G. "Tony" Romero

February 7, 1963 — June 10, 2020

Romero, Anthony G. “Tony” 2/07/1963 – 6/10/2020 Anthony G. “Tony” Romero was born on February 7th, 1963 in Amarillo, TX to Rosario L. Romero & Sandra Hammers (Wood). He grew up moving around with his mother and step father, John Hammers who was in the Air Force, and younger sister Christi Hendrix (Hammers). Living in Japan, North Dakota, Texas and then settling in Omaha, NE. Before moving to Omaha he worked for a custom cabinetry shop in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro. He started working for Airlite Plastics in 1982 where he continued to work until his passing. He married Delia Davenport in July of 1987 where he was blessed with two step children, Deidre & Donovan O’Leary, and they had two children of their own, Elisha & Laura Hammers. In 2005 Tony met Elizabeth Lopez and they brought a son, Anthony Romero Lopez, into this world in August of 2006. Tony was always extremely excited to become a “Papa”. In June of 2011 his wish came true when Charleigh Rae O’Leary was born to his step daughter, Deidre. The following June a second granddaughter, Valynn Felix, was born to Elisha. In March 2016 his first grandson, Chase O’Leary Heppner, was born to Deidre. And currently his daughter Elisha is pregnant with another grandson due this coming September. Tony was a huge Husker, Cowboys, and Chiefs Football fan, and loved spending game days (drinking beer and yelling at the TV) with his father in law, Larry Smith. He loved all things 4th of July and Halloween, and would always go all out for these holidays – even more so once he had kids and grandkids of his own. Amusement parks and rollercoasters were always something that Tony loved and would take his kids every summer to Worlds of Fun or other similar parks. Tony was a huge history buff and loved anything to do with historical military facts. He was always interested in travel and learning about other cultures, but was not one to visit a tourist trap. Space and all things astronomy were always something that Tony was incredibly interested in – always looking at the sky. And, if he could have been a storm chaser he definitely would have been - (never afraid to stand outside during a Tornado warning.) Another hobby that Tony was known for was his love of the movies, especially all things Sci-Fi and fantasy. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Harry Potter and any of the Studio Ghibli movies. This is something he has instilled into his kids and grandkids as well. Music was another thing that was always very important to Tony all throughout his life – collecting albums, going to concerts, and jamming out while he was driving in the car were all things he loved. He was preceded in death by his father Rosario L. Romero. Tony is Survived by his Mother Sandra Hammers (Wood); Children: Deidre O’Leary, Donovan O’Leary, Elisha Hammers, Laura Hammers and Anthony Romero Lopez; Grand-children: Charleigh Rae O’Leary, Valynn Felix, and Chase O’Leary Heppner; Sister Christi (Brian) Hendrix; Sister-in-Law Denise Davenport; Mother & Father-in-Law Betty (Larry) Smith; Nieces and nephews, Michael Hassenstab, Ricky Young, Lauren Young, Jacob Young, Wesley Fisher, and Kyler Fisher.
