Anne C. Cunningham, 82, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, following a brief illness, with her daughters, Meagan and Lauren, by her side.

Born March 3, 1944, in Greenville, South Carolina, she remained deeply connected to family and friends throughout her life and leaves behind a legacy of independence, strength, grace, loyalty, and a sharp sense of humor. Her family will remember those qualities and the many ways she shaped the people they became. Meagan and Lauren often said that the greatest gift their mother gave them was their independence.

She was a wonderful grandmother who loved her grandsons fiercely. Both boys have fond memories of after-school and weekend dates with Grandma.

She is survived by her daughters, Meagan (Donald) Weese and Lauren (Michael) Sartwell; her grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin Sartwell; her sister, Ellen Jordan; her nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel Sartwell; her sisters, Margaret Husky and Louise Robinson; and her parents, Amos and Louise Cunningham.

A celebration of her life will be held in South Carolina in the spring, when family and friends will gather to remember her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made through the University of Nebraska Foundation to the Nebraska Medicine Patient and Family Experience Fund. Anne received extraordinary care at the end of her life, and her family could not be more grateful for the compassion and kindness shown to her and to them during her final days.
